YEAR 5 have been studying the ancient Egyptians and the classrooms are currently bedecked with cardboard models and pictures of the boys and girls dressed in Egyptian outfits. However Mrs Rout-Moore felt this was an ideal opportunity for herself and the children to be introduced to the wonderful 3-D world of SketchUp - and rapidly embark upon creating a virtual model of the Parthenon.
As with any SketchUp you need to start with a plan - usually a floor plan, then trace this before extruding the foundations (in this case mainly the columns) to make a building. However, to make the ‘pediment’ there is a clever workaround which uses a temporary ‘box’ which can later be deleted on which ti base the top part of the structure.
Anyway - the boys and girls did a splendid job - for almost everyone this was their first sight of SketchUp, and the results of some of their efforts appear in these photos.
