YEAR 4 tried to recreate aspects of classic Viking sagas today, animating stories using a variety of software.
Mrs Chadwick’s group had been looking at the story of Thor’s Hammer...
“Thor’s most famous weapon was a double-headed hammer called Mjollnir. It always hit its target and flew back to his hand. One morning he woke to find Mjollnir had been stolen from his bedside by Thrym, a Frost Giant. Thor swore he would take revenge.
Thrym said he would return the hammer if Freya agreed to become his wife. But Freya refused angrily and so a plan was needed. Thor dressed up like a bride, pretending to be Freya, and Loki pretended to be her bridesmaid. Together they set out for Thrym’s hall.
When they arrived, the wedding feast began. Thor almost gave the game away by indulging his huge appetite for food and drink. But Loki quickly explained to the guests that the bride had not eaten for days because she was so excited about getting married. This delighted Thrym and, in accord with tradition, Mjollnir was brought out for bride and groom to swear their vows on. The moment he saw his precious hammer, Thor threw off his veil, and grabbed Mjollnir. He and Loki killed Thrym and several of the wedding guests.”
Meanwhile Mrs Wilson’s group tried using the draw tools in Kudlian’s iCanAnimate to make a Viking ship sail across a sea appropriately created in the paint program SPLOSH.
Both groups where shown how to combine their films - exported at Quicktime movies, with sounds and music.
At the end of the day, the computer bus man was given a splendid Thank You Card - one of the best ever - from the children and staff at Ashley Hill School - bringing to and end a memorable seven days.
Thanks especially to all the teachers, Head Mrs Smith and new ICT Coordinator Mrs Riordan.
