AFTER OVER 70 YEARS as a coach depot and 10 Years as the home to the Manx Telecomputer Bus, the gates have closed for the final time on the Summerhill Quarry depot, home to computerbus co-sponsors ProTours (Isle of Man). ProTours have a new home in Ballasalla and the Computer Bus has a new space courtesy Isle of Man Transport...
Since 1998, the bus has lived safe and dry in the ‘top shed’ at Summerhill (left), along with the coaches of TOURS (Isle of Man) - latterly ProTours. With its special ‘radio-linked’ alarm system, the bus has been very happy at Summerhill, and the ongoing support initially of David Castle, and Managing Director Mr Roy Lightfoot and the current ProTours owners, has been critical to the project’s success.
Changing circumstances have resulted in ProTours moving to s smaller site close to the Isle of Man Airport in Ballasalla, and now the Computer Bus has a new home - courtesy of Mike Ball and Isle of Man Transport.
Over the Christmas break, ProTours staff have moved all the workshop equipment, stores, offices and of course the coaches to Ballasalla, and the gates closed for the last time on New Year’s Eve on the depot in Onchan.
The link between the computer bus and ProTours is not over, and we wish ProTours every success in 2009.
Below are a selection of photos of the old depot, which is now empty.
Thanks and farewell to ProTours Depot...

IT WAS back in 1998 that then TOURS (Isle of Man) owner David Castle and Managing Director Roy Lightfoot agreed to co-sponsor the computer bus by offering free accommodation - plus technical backup in the event of breakdown.
